I love going to new places. I love the journey, the discovering a different way of life, the change in climate, the food and the sights. If I could get paid to go all over the world and write about it, I would. I am so grateful to be in a position in my life where I have the opportunity to make these choices and organise these trips with my partner, family and friends. And I am also grateful to have surrounded myself with people who want to do these things too!
So of course, I jumped at the chance to hatch a plan with my seasoned-traveller friend Maya and go and visit our mutual friend Billie, who is currently living it up in Bologna. That was back in October, but a few days ago we booked our flights and I’m getting that pre-holiday feeling knowing that we are definitely going, and also getting excited about spending some quality time drinking wine and eating pizza with two people I don’t get to see very often.
So far the plans are pretty loose, and it’s likely that we’re going to head off to Rome all together so I’m sure we’ll be getting stuck into the sightseeing and nightlife and everything. It’s going to be my first ever trip with friends and (I think) we’re all quite similar in our holiday wants and needs. Personally, I like doing a bit of the sightseeing and museum stuff, but my main goal is usually to do some shopping in markets and stuff, and to eat as much authentic local food as possible. Nothing bothers me more than seeing people ordering chips abroad (although I do have a rather disgusting tradition of sampling the different aspects of a country’s McDonalds, just to see what it’s like).
Maybe closer to the time, I’ll make a list of all the things I’d like to cross off my Italy bucket list, but for now, I’m just excited to be going and spending some time with my ladies.
